Summer Arts & Athletics Manager

Muskoka Woods is a Christian youth development organization that welcomes everyone to an experience for a lifetime. We are located on the shores of beautiful Lake Rosseau and specialize in summer camp, school trips, group retreats and leadership development for all ages. We exist to inspire youth to shape their world.

Job Purpose

This position leads, manages and is accountable for all activity development and scheduling, activity facilities and purchasing for all summer Arts & Athletic department areas. The Arts & Athletic manager is responsible for the delivery of all activity offerings and providing “unmatched” activity offerings throughout the summer.

Key Job Functions

Arts & Athletic Program Development

  • Benchmark Muskoka Woods’ current programs and make recommendations
  • Incorporate Signature Experiences into all athletic areas
  • Adapt current programs and develop new programs to add value to guests
  • Responsible for the activity schedule within the cabin activity model (Activity Matrix)
  • Develop lesson plans and evaluate activity lessons throughout the summer


Arts & Athletic Operations

  • Manage guest safety for all Arts & Athletic areas and working to minimize risk
  • Responsible for all pre-summer set up for Arts & Athletic areas in June
  • Responsible for all tear-down of summer activities in September
  • Manage all equipment inventory including end of summer equipment sales.


Staff Hiring, Training and Leadership

    • Effectively lead, manage and hold accountable a team of 115 front line seasonal staff that results in a fully motivated team that cares for and serves our guests
    • Conduct employee Growth Rings (performance review) to encourage and provide feedback
    • Interview and hire all seasonal summer Athletic Directors and Area Heads

    • Responsible to aid in the development of the Director and Leadership training plan
    • Provide department specific training for: Directors, Area Heads, and Instructors
    • Assist the HR department with seasonal staff interviews


Customer Service

  • Responsible for parent & survey follow-up throughout the summer and during the year
  • Assists seasonal Athletic Directors with guest related issues that arise in the summer 



  • Work cross-departmentally (schools/groups, leadership studio) as required 
  • Participate in meetings as required
  • Participate in corporate events including Town Hall and Annual Retreat

Skills and Attributes Required

Experience Required:

  • College/University degree
  • 5 years of summer camp experience or the equivalent in working with children and youth
  • 2 – 3 years of proven leadership experience


Essential Functions:

  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal with guests and staff
  • Able to stand, walk and work for 8 to 10 hours a day in the summer months
  • Possess physical and mental strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of guests and staff during the summer months
  • Ability to work 6 days a week for 10 weeks during the summer months.  (time to be given in lieu after the summer)

*Please note: September to April this position is located as work from home but should be able to be at in person meetings in the GTA on a semi-regular basis. May through to the end of August this position is located at the Resort in Rosseau, ON. – Accommodation is provided.
