Muskoka Woods is a Christian youth development organization that welcomes everyone to an experience for a lifetime. Located on the shores of beautiful Lake Rosseau, we specialize in summer camp, school trips, group retreats and leadership development for all ages. We exist to inspire youth to shape their world.

Job Purpose

To deliver fresh, flavourful, and fun meals to guests and staff with food related allergies, dietary restrictions and/or modifications required while complying with all Health and Safety standards, proper food-handling techniques and Muskoka Woods standards.

Key Job Functions

Oversee food preparation and cooking:

  • Work with the Head Chef to create a special diets menu reflecting similar items to the general buffet.
  • Daily verify recipes and quantities to ensure accurate delivery
  • Cook, plan and ensure all special diets meals are fresh, flavourful, and fun while following all required guest restrictions
  • Research and test new products and recipes for special diets menu
  • Daily review special diets documents/requirements for all guests and staff and plan production accordingly
  • Create detailed instructions for Head and Sous Chefs during time off.
    Prepare weekly inventory of special diets areas
  • Create and maintain ingredients lists for all special diets menu items including pictures when necessary
  • Liaise with guests on a daily basis for delivery of plated meals, cooler meals and all other SD inquiries
  • Contribute ideas to the overall menu planning.
  • Ensure quality control of all special diets meals and salad bar through visual checks of buffet at each meal

 

Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization of the kitchen:

  • Ensure the pantry, all fridges, freezer, cooking line, prep kitchen, equipment, dish area, loading docks, and walk in are clean and organized by supervising the daily cleaning routines through organization, participation, schedules and checklists
  • Receive product, verifying invoices and freshness of merchandise, puts away and organizes deliveries as required
  • Ensure special diets fridge temperature sheets and cleaning schedule are being maintained
  • Is aware of and abides by all Health and Safety and Food Handling requirements

 

Lead shifts, train, and supervise team when required:

  • Assign meal tasks using daily production sheets and running pre-shift meetings with the team
  • Ensure quality control of all meals, including yogurt and salad bars, through visual inspection of buffets and following up with staff.
  • Work alongside cooks and food prep staff and coach as required
  • Participate in ongoing full time and seasonal staff training
  • Participate in community events and initiatives when possible ie Cadence, one on ones, social gatherings

 

Other

  • Participate in meetings weekly Level 10 Team meeting and other meetings as needed.
  • Participate in corporate events including Town Hall, Arboretum,
  • Leadership Meetings and Annual Retreat
  • Organize time and keep the office clean
  • Personal and professional development
  • Other requests as outlined by the Head Chef

Experience Required:

  • College/University degree or equivalent in experience.
  • Red Seal Chef or equivalent in experience.
  • 4 to 7 years of cooking/kitchen experience.
  • 2 to 3 years of proven leadership experience of young people and adults.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Ability to lift and move up to 50lbs
  • Able to stand, walk and work for 6 to 8 hours
  • Possess physical and mental strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of staff
  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal, with guests and staff.
