Job Description

The Program department has the overall responsibility of our guests and supervises them in their cabins, at meal times, during free time and in evening programs.

The primary role of the Assistant to Summer Director and Program Manager within this department is to support in all administrative tasks and projects as outlined by the Camp Director and Program Manager. Tasks include but are not limited to: coordinating the Director’s schedule and meetings, administrating Emergency Procedure assignments, assigning, communicating and overseeing the Night Watch schedule and Security Team, organizing the guest/staff meal system, facilitating staff announcements, T-shirt distribution, Survival packs, postcards and rentals. The assistant supports the entire Program team by hosting weekly meetings, attending evening programs and helping to cover on Program Manager’s day off. The assistant also greets visitors, organizes special events and other camp projects.

Summer Directors are regularly assigned to the Shutdown schedule and the Dining Room Maitre'd schedule.
Leadership staff also contribute to the overall ministry to staff and are required to lead a staff small group and participate in our One to One staff mentoring program.
All leadership staff contribute to alternate duties on guest arrival and departure days as well as the weekend stayover program.

Staff are required to attend all meetings as outlined during staff training including Cadence and Small Group.

Muskoka Woods is looking for staff whose personal values match the MW Core Values which includes having a passion for working with children and youth.

The Assistant to the Summer Director and Program Manager must have strong administrative skills including planning and organizing, time management, be attentive to details and have strong communication skills both oral and written. We are looking for an energetic leader who has excellent interpersonal skills and is able to take initiative and work in high-stress situations. Previous administrative experience, working with youth, running programs and working at summer camps is required.

Salary Range

$300 - $330 per week plus room and board

Full Summer Bonus

Each director who commits their entire summer will qualify for a $500 bonus to be given at the end of the summer.

May 6 - August 31, 2024

Essential Functions

  • Be able to assist guests and staff in an emergency
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of guests and/or staff
  • Have the ability to accompany guests across camp
  • Ability to participate in and lead small and large group activities throughout the day
  • Have the ability to communicate well in person and on the phone.

Additional Notes

  • All staff are required to uphold the Muskoka Woods Vision and Mission, Core Values and Aspirations, as well as all policy and procedures as outlined during our Staff Development Week held at the beginning of your contract.
  • All Counsellors stay in a cabin with our guests. All other staff stay in shared staff accommodation.
