Job Description
The Program team is all about making sure our guests are thriving throughout the entire week at camp! Program is in charge of supervising guests in their cabins, at meal times, during free time and at evening programs.
At Muskoka Woods, we welcome a diverse range of guests and strive to create a safe, fun environment that builds confidence. The Exceptionality Program allows children and youth with special needs (including Autism Spectrum Disorder) to experience camp with the support they need for a successful week. We provide tailored assistance for each child’s physical, intellectual, social, or behavioural needs and integrate them into camp programming to the extent possible and where appropriate, with guidance from our exceptionalities team.
The main role of the Exceptionality Director is coordinating and overseeing the Exceptionality Program. The Exceptionality Director is responsible for collaborating with their team to ensure that the exceptionality guests are supported and cared for. They will lead and support their Section Head and counsellors, offering training, support, and feedback. Their day-to-day consists of checking-in with their counsellors and guests, as well as managing volunteers. They are the go-to person for solving any challenges and connecting with parents and staff to ensure every guest’s needs are met. At times, the Exceptionality Director may have to step in for one of their team members to provide one-on-one support for a guest.
Summer Directors are regularly assigned to the Shutdown schedule and the Dining Room Maitre'd schedule.
Leadership staff also contribute to the overall ministry to staff and are required to lead a staff small group and participate in our One to One staff mentoring program.
All leadership staff contribute to alternate duties on guest arrival and departure days as well as the weekend stayover program.
Staff are required to attend all meetings as outlined during staff training including Cadence and Small Group.
Skills and Attributes Required
Muskoka Woods is looking for staff whose personal values match the MW Core Values which includes having a passion for working with children and youth.
The Exceptionality Director must have strong administrative skills including planning and organization, time management, be attentive to details and have strong communication skills both oral and written. We are looking for an energetic leader who has excellent interpersonal skills, takes initiative and works well in high-stress situations. They must be supportive, patient, creative problem solvers, have a heart to serve others, and have a love for those who need extra support. Applicants must have education and/or proven experience in the field of Exceptionalities.
Salary Range
$300 - $330 per week plus room and board
Full Summer Bonus
Each director who commits their entire summer (with some exceptions for Classic) will qualify for a $500 bonus to be given at the end of the summer.

May 4 - September 5, 2026
Essential Functions
- Be able to help guests and staff in emergencies
- Have the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of guests and/or staff
- Have the ability to travel around camp with guests
- Join in on activities for 6 to 8 hours a day
- Lead both small and large group activities
- Communicate clearly and effectively with staff and guests
Additional Notes
- All staff are required to uphold the Muskoka Woods Vision and Mission, Core Values and Aspirations, as well as all policies and procedures as outlined during our Staff Development Week held at the beginning of your contract.
- All Counsellors stay in a cabin with our guests. All other staff stay in shared staff accommodation.
- All Staff are required to live on property in Rosseau, Ontario for the duration of their contract.
