Summer Program Manager

Muskoka Woods is a Christian youth development organization that welcomes everyone to an experience for a lifetime. We are located on the shores of beautiful Lake Rosseau and specialize in summer camp, school trips, group retreats and leadership development for all ages. We exist to inspire youth to shape their world.

Job Purpose

The Summer Program Manager has the overall responsibility of the summer guest experience through cabin life, meal times, free time and evening programs. This position leads, manages and is accountable for each section (WILD, Venture, Junior High, Senior High, Crew) including all staff and evening programs. The Program Manager brainstorms and develops for program excellence and plans and oversees the execution of programs accordingly.

Key Job Functions


Signature Experiences

  • Incorporate directives of Signature Experience into all programs
  • Adapt current programs and develop new programs to add value to guests
  • Continuously improve program delivery to enable increased mission impact
  • Benchmark Muskoka Woods’ current programs and make recommendations
  • Ensure all summer programming runs smoothly including: evening programming, cabin culture, guest issues, opening day show, etc.
  • Brainstorm, plan and implement Classic week programming
  • Assist Summer Camp Director in brainstorming, planning and implementing of programming across all aspects of camp


Customer Service

  • Responsible for parent & survey follow-up throughout the summer and during the year
  • Supervise and assist seasonal Program Directors with guest related issues that arise in the summer


Staff Hiring, Training & Leadership

  • Effectively lead, manage and hold accountable a team of 120 front line seasonal staff that results in fully motivated team that cares and serves our guests
  • Conduct employee Growth Rings (performance review) to encourage and provide feedback
  • Interview and hire all seasonal summer Program Directors and Section Heads
  • Responsible to aid in the development of the Director and Leadership training plan
  • Provide department specific training for: Directors, Section Heads, Counsellors, Guest Communicators and the Exceptionalities team.
  • Assist the HR department with seasonal staff interviews

Guest Ministry

  • Assist with Summer Camp Director in brainstorming, planning and executing of guest related ministry


  • Work cross departmentally (schools/groups, leadership studio) as required
  • Participate in meetings as needed
  • Participate in corporate meetings such as Town Hall and the Annual Retreat

Experience Required

  • College/University degree
  • 5 years of summer camp experience or the equivalent in working with children and youth
  • 2 – 3 years of proven leadership experience


Essential Functions

  • Ability to communicate, both written and verbal with guests and staff
  •  Able to stand, walk and work for 8 to 10 hours a day in the summer months
  • Possess physical and mental strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of guests and staff during the summer months
  • Ability to work 6 days a week for 10 weeks during the summer months. (time to be given in lieu after the summer)

*Please note: September to April this position is located as work from home but should be able to be at in person meetings in the GTA on a semi-regular basis. May through to the end of August this position is located at the Resort in Rosseau, ON. – Accommodation is provided.
