Job Description

Cabin Chat and Spark are a special part of each night at Muskoka Woods for our WILD (6 to 8 year old) and Venture (9 to 10 year old) guests. During this time, staff and guests share on topics including Christian values, character and personal beliefs. These sessions create a safe space for listening, laughing and learning about values and morals through Bible stories. We encourage young people to think in new ways. Whatever the occasion, our conversations are age appropriate and respectful of all religions and beliefs. The Cabin Chat/Spark Guest Communicators primary responsibility is to deliver content at Spark (a weekly large group multi-media experience) and daily Cabin Chats with WILD and Venture. Guest Communicators are also required to assist in Super Saturday and drive for hospital runs and area assigned 6 to 8 One 2 One’s.

Leadership staff are regularly assigned to the Shutdown schedule and the Dining Room Maitre'd schedule.
Leadership staff also contribute to the overall ministry to staff and are required to lead a staff small group and conduct One 2 One's.
All leadership staff contribute to alternate duties on guest arrival and departure days as well as the weekend stayover program.

Staff are required to attend all meetings as outlined during staff training including Cadence and Small Group.

Staff are required to abide by all COVID-19 standard operating procedures including enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols within their department, in assigned areas outside of their department, and in all community living/gathering spaces.

Skills and Attributes Required

Muskoka Woods is looking for staff whose personal values match the MW Core Values which includes having a passion for working with children and youth.

Guest Communicators must have excellent verbal communication skills, and be able to effectively speak in front of large groups and bring energey and “sizzle” to every talk. Experience with children ages 6 to 10 is required. Experience speaking/teaching in front of both Christian and non Christian settings is preferred.

Salary Range

$185 - $215 per week plus room and board

Contract Dates

June 6th - September 3rd, 2021

Essential Functions

  • Be able to assist guests and staff in an emergency
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of guests and/or staff
  • Have the ability to accompany guests across camp
  • Ability to participate in and lead small and large group activities throughout the day
  • Have the ability to communicate well in person and on the phone.

** Please note: All staff are required to uphold the Muskoka Woods Vision and Mission, Core Values and Aspirations, as well as all policy and procedures as outlined during our Staff Development Week held at the beginning of your contract.

** Please note: All Counsellors stay in a cabin with our guests. All other staff stay in shared staff accommodation.
